Position Description

The Database Administrator performs tasks related to analyzing, implementing, monitoring, and supporting database systems, infrastructure, and services within the IT organization. The Database Administrator coordinates with team members and stakeholders to ensure our database systems are reliable, secure, and functioning within expected parameters. This role ensures the database is available 24/7, with some on-call and after-hours responsibilities.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Build, manage, and support database systems of high availability and quality based on IT, Business, and Engineering requirements
  • Design and implement databases in accordance with modern and forward-thinking strategies
  • Tuning, maintenance, and performance management of supported databases
  • Implement security policies on supported databases and infrastructure
  • Implement high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup strategies
  • Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to ensure optimized database transaction responses
  • Provide proactive and reactive data management support
  • Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards
  • Perform tests and evaluations of database instances regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity
  • Monitor and report on database performance for tuning and index considerations
  • Consult with appropriate stakeholders on data retention policies and apply approved policies
  • Consult with Engineering and Security stakeholders on department initiatives, strategies, and implementations
  • Keep database versions up-to-date with patches and version upgrades when required
  • Works in Azure platform environments to support database systems

Must Have Skills:

 

  • Excellent knowledge of SQL Server tools and administration
  • Advanced knowledge of database monitoring, performance troubleshooting, and query optimization
  • Hands-on experience with MS SQL Server databases in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with replication, clustering, backup, recovery, security, integrity, database mirroring, and Always-On
  • Experience of supporting databases with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
