    Position Description

    Emtec seeks a Senior Networking Engineer for one of its client projects.  This position will report to the client Network and Telecom Infrastructure Manager. This is professional work which involves engineering, design, and MAN network and VoIP infrastructure and devices. Equipment manufacturers will be varied; however, Cisco is primarily utilized. Equipment types such as switches, routers, VoIP handsets, and WI- FI/Wireless Access Points are utilized.


    The position oversees and leads projects including design, re-design, installation, implementation and configuration of networking devices and infrastructure for security and functionality. Must have a working knowledge of the Network Open Systems Model (OSI) and how it's designed to function within the network and applications. Holistic understanding of Datacenter Operations to interact with & manage carriers to implement new projects or commission new sites. Team Lead for escalated tickets, new and upgrade projects working with staff, customers and vendors. Primary responsibilities shall include the following:

    • Participates in long-range enterprise technical planning by providing consultative direction, recommendations and authoritative engineering judgment in the decision making process for future efforts Partners closely with Enterprise Architects and the Senior Voice Engineer to assist with the design of infrastructure solutions to meet business requirements
    • Designs enterprise network routing architectures using protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and static routes
    • Optimizes management for large amounts of users and QOS design for VoIP implementation over LAN/WAN
    • Troubleshoots complex multi-vendor Network and VoIP issues in the LAN, MAN and WAN environments
    • Updates and/or creates documentation of existing, new and proposed infrastructure architecture and configurations
    • Ensures business continuity of data transport systems
    • Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced/non-senior infrastructure team members and may have team lead or supervisory responsibility; may serve as a technical team or task lead
    • Oversees and performs hardware and software installations, upgrades and maintenance of network infrastructure and components as directed; primarily in the area of Cisco Routers, Cisco Switches
    • Deal with ambiguity and make decisions with limited information
    • Exercises creativity and imagination in approaching assignments
    • Demonstrates ability to quickly grasp new ideas and concepts
    • Maintains proactive awareness of new technologies and trends within the field of networking and evaluates the appropriateness of this technology for client environment
    • Document and update the client's Enterprise Network, utilizing applications such as: Visio, AutoCAD, etc.
    • Serve as escalation point of contact for the Network and Voice teams
    • Provides Network tier 2/3 support to ITD groups and customers
    • Assists Network and Voice Team as needed
    • Uses a network protocol analyzer efficiently (i.e. Observer, Wire Shark, etc.) to troubleshoot and gather network statistics
    • Uses network monitoring tools efficiently (i.e. CiscoWorks, Solarwinds, ACS, Cisco Prime, PathSolutions, etc.)
    • Provides training as required
    • Operates personal computer to include Microsoft Office products and other standard applications
    • Demonstrates proficiency in the client's Core Competencies
    • Adheres to the Change Management process for updates, maintenance and support
    • After hours updates, maintenance and support and or on call work may be required
    • Performs other duties and/or work as required


    Must Have Skills:


    • Ten years (10) of education and/or experience in enterprise network systems and VoIP technologies
    • Must be able to lead, direct others, and serve as team lead on projects
    • Experience and ability to provide training on updated processes, procedures, or related items including technical skills
    • Must be proficient in MS Visio, Excel, and Word
    • FLA Class E Driver's License is required & must be maintained
    • Ability to acquire certifications as required. Certification is obtained by successfully completing web-based training courses which cover physical security, incident response, the protection of information and other IT specific security threats, vulnerabilities and risks
    • Must be able to pass a hands-on test administered by the Client
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs

    Preferred Skills:


    • Cisco CCNA or CCNP Routing and Switching, or higher is preferred
    • Experience in a mid to large sized environment preferred
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution is preferred
